Beltway 360 – The Cup and the Saucer of Russia Sanctions
The “Washington Post” on Tuesday (page three) reported that a meeting of the Democratic leadership of the House of Representatives (including the powerful committee chairmen) agreed that pursuing impeachment of President Trump is off the table for the time being.
Thus, the heartfelt goal of many of the newly-elected Democratic members of the House has died. The reality was that only demonstrable collusion by Trump with Moscow would have risen to the level of impeachment; now that option is not available to the president’s opponents. Their agenda, however, is merely altered, from impeachment to indictments. The House — and in particular the five committees charged with investigating Trump — will pursue every potential avenue, in parallel with judicial bodies of which the most important is the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
