Answering the BRI. Critics who say the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) has not delivered have generally set false expectations. Either they see a sinister aim of recreating the Soviet Union, or they expect quite rigid trade patterns to change overnight. The reality is that the EaEU exists to present a united Eurasian partnership to deal with the challenges and opportunities of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It has achieved this goal quite well.
